A broad knowledge of industrial design, mechanical
engineering, ergonomics, materials and processes, and CAD modeling and documentation
enables the concurrent inclusion of the diverse needs of consumers, and the
requirements of marketing and manufacturing departments, in the process of product
design. Products are designed to be effectively manufactured, visually appealing,
and intuitive to use, all in the same process; rather than the usual back-and-forth
compromising that occurs between industrial designers and mechanical engineers.
Principal of Mielke Product Design, located in
Silicon Valley, since 1984. Projects include many electronic products ranging
from hand-held to supercomputers for clients such as IBM, JVC, Sun, and Symbol,
as well as medical products such as a breast pump and FEEG equipment for an
MRI environment, also marine products, military electronics, packaging, transportation,
